Daddy's Chair

Here is another corner of our home that changes quite often. In a previous post about my kitchen table and chairs I mentioned that I originally went to pick up a chair for my husband's birthday. Well, here it is. It is black leather instead of Naugahyde which is pretty cool, it tilts and swivels and the leather has aged so it is nice and soft.
I picked it up for $35 off of CL. I think this corner is a good place for it. I didn't realize how much space a chair and ottoman actually takes up. Design wise it seems that you need a lot of space for such setup. The ottoman and coffee table are always battling for space.
The art on the right side of the wall was done by Baby J. I found a cool MCM frame at a resale shop for about $3.50. The original lithograph in the frame was cool just not with my color scheme so instead of just letting Baby J paint right over it, I wrapped the original print with canvas primed it with a tinted primer, and then let him go at it. And when I later find that the original art is worth thousands I can just remove the new to reveal the old! :)

Its The Small Things

I started some spring cleaning yesterday, and after getting everything spruced up I felt the need for fresh flowers. I wasn't able to leave the house since Baby J was sleeping, so I got my scissors and headed for my Hosta garden. My Hostas in just the past week have gone crazy, it is so rewarding to see things that you have planted flourish.

So I sniped just a few leaves and placed them in a couple of vases, and there you have it. Its the small things that can make you and your home feel great.

*The top photo is of my kitchen table, with Hostas in a Jonathan Adler vase from Goodwill.

*the bottom photo is in our front room with Hosta in a mikasa vase on my found table.

craigslist find

There are a few things from this picture that are listed on CL, but the cowhide rug is what got me excited. It is a beautiful large rug listed for $150.
I have been wanting a cowhide for a couple of years now, and have been keeping a eye out, and wouldn't you know I have found the perfect rug at a very fair price, and I don't have the money for it.
Oh well, I hope someone else sees the beauty and it looks almost as good as it would in my living room.
I don't remember the price listed on the other items, but I do remember that the pair of black chairs to the right in the picture, the entertainment centers, and the couch are all listed for sale. I have to say that I think this room looks very magazine worthy as is, and it would be interesting to see what it looks like after they change out all the furniture.

Tulip Table and Chairs

Just a little inspiration. The last photo is of a CL find here in St. Louis, 6 chairs and oval table for $300. I think if this is what you have been looking for is a good deal. Not like my $20 table and chairs, but after all this is a larger table, and more chairs. The second photo with the red cushions was on flickr and noted asking price of $750.
The other photos are all flickr finds and were posted as inspiration.

Painted House Numbers

I have been wanting to put house numbers up on our weekend home, and It think this just might be perfect. Even the greens would be great on the white building.
I know I haven't said much about our weekend place lately, but we have been doing a lot of work and pictures are soon to come.

How cute would these chairs look on a patio? I love this style, where could be pushed together for a love seat, or separated.

New Layout

Ben Siebel

The first image is from 1st dibs, and is a pair of Ben Seibel Handles, bookends. They are priced at $350. The next 3 images are of a pair of the exact same bookends, that I own.
I found them at a resale shop a while back, loved them and I thought they were priced at $3.45. When I got to the cash register they were kind of rude and told me they were priced individually. I didn't understand why bookends were priced to where you could buy only one if wanted to.
So with the rude factor I said never mind, you can keep them. I walked away at $6.90.
I got home and couldn't stop thinking about how I NEEDED these. I started a search online to reveal what I had walked away from. I then sat at home kicking myself.
I waited until I thought the shift had changed at the resale shop so as to not run into the same woman that I told could go ahead and keep them, and I headed back hoping that hoping that they were still there waiting for me.
They were!

Westnofa Siesta Chair and Ottoman

I did a little search for the Westnofa Siesta chair after David had told me $60, from one of my recent CL finds was a steal. The first two picture are from flickr and the third is a listing from ebay "buy it now" $1220.00

Scandinavian leather chair and ottoman,vintage
I'm not sure that this style chair and ottoman is really that comfortable, but it's not really about comfort now is it?
*update: I just took a look and the post has already been deleted. Someone else got a steal!

Lamp

The hanging lamp in the picture on the left caught my eye, and after taking a second look, I own that lamp. My lamp is a table lamp, and I found it at a resale shop about 6 years ago. I fell in love with it and had never seen another one like it.
My lamp at this point is lighting a corner of my friend Trish's living room, but I wanted to save this picture from a sneak peek from design*sponge.

Flora Grubb

I love succulents, and the first picture I am amazed at the detail in the succulent wall hanging. I think at some point I am going to have to find the time to work on a project like these. I like the idea of the first picture wall hanging, but I think I would start small and maybe do three to hang in sequence.

St. Louis MO/Jefferson county; $75
How cool is this set? Love it. There is definitely no way I could bring this one home. I hope that someone else snatches it up and loves it to death.

Kitchen Table and Chairs

We have had this table and chair set for a few months now, I finally got around to taking a picture of them. They are usually covered in sticky finger prints and dinner from the night before.
I had been really wanting a knoll set like this but felt that it was out of financial reach for me. I had been looking at the table from Ikea, but at still about $200 for a table alone and shipping(not to mention we didn't need a table ) I had put this dream to rest.
Then I had found a chair and ottoman on CL that I wanted to get for my husband's birthday. It was quite a drive and after about a 45min-1hr in the car we pull up to the house, and low and behold, there it was. In the garage sat the table and chairs of my dreams. I got so excited that I almost forgot why we were there. I quickly looked over the chair, and say yeah its fine, whatever, are you wanting to get rid of the table and chairs in your garage?
She said she would have to talk to her husband and get back to me. I was so excited, I could hardly think about the great deal I just got on the chair and ottoman.
The next day I waited by the phone, until I couldn't stand it anymore, and I finally called her.
She said yeah they were willing to part with the set, but they would need to get.....wait are you ready for this....$25.... for the set. I made sure one more time that this price included the table and 4 chairs, then I nearly peed my pants.
I of course wanted to get back out there before they had a chance to change their minds, or even do a little more research and find that they could get a lot more, I would have even paid a lot more. They were not going to be home the next day, but told me to come out, load the set up and just leave the cash under the rug. How great is that?
I know that you purist out there are reading this and saying Its a knockoff. I don't care. I love it as if it weren't, and would never make it feel bad, because I think its way cooler than anything you can get at Ikea.

Hanging Chair

Baby J would love this chair, I wonder how hard it is to hang it without feeling like at any point it might come tumbling down. I have also seen them to wear it is chained to the floor so that it doesn't swing to wide. It sounds like a lot of work for a chair that in my house will get moved in a couple of weeks.

New Daybed

This is one of the pair of daybeds that I got off of CL. The upholstery is not as bad as I thought it was going to be, and in great shape, still a little busy for me. I have to say it is very comfortable, the cushion foam seams to be in great shape also.

Arthur Umanoff

The first pic is of a chair that I found in the alley. The rushed back rest of the chair had been destroyed by what looked like cat claws. I removed all of the rushing and was planning on redoing it myself. Once the chair was cleaned up, me and my husband both decided we liked the sculptural quality of the chair as is.

The second photo is one I found on 1stdibs.com and the pair of chairs are going for $3,200. I was not able to find the exact bar stools from the previous post, but I do believe the free bar stools look a lot like Arthur Umanoff.

craigslist find

Knoll toothpick cactus side table.$55
I have always loved this table, and never knew the name of it or who made it. After seeing this I did some research, and found that these tables come in a few sizes, were first manufactured in 1994, and the prices start at $850.
Needless to say, I'm sure this probably has already been snatched up, and after my big CL find yesterday, I have been cut off for awhile.I did email just to see if it was available, in case someone wanted to buy me a b-day gift;)
*update: this table sold very quickly, which in some ways is good for me. I was not forced to by something that I really didn't need, due to the great price. I did receive a email back stating that the table had sold, but he would be posting a Knoll paperclip table if I was interested. I looked on CL for a listing and picture , to only find a quick listing and no pic for a table priced @ $750. So I am guessing that this man did his research after all of the frantic emails about the first table. I am also guessing with such a price increase that he is sick over selling the first table for $55.

Flickr Find

I found this pic while looking for inspiration for my new mid century modern daybeds. Yes, that's right, I am now the proud owner of two beautiful MCM daybed. Just for the record I know that I don't NEED anymore furniture. And I have to say in my own defence that I started my craigslist finds posts, so that I didn't feel the need to purchase these things. But what can I say, I LOVE FURNITURE. Alright its out there in the open, it is a sickness. Why can't I be one of those people that collect miniatures, or maybe even records, or what about those souvenir spoons. But I'm not, I for some reason collect furniture. Chairs are the usual suspects, but now I've moved on to larger things, settees, couches. I still try to keep the piece or pieces of furniture light enough that I can move it into the house, and into hiding before anyone notices. But really? I think my husband at this point doesn't believe that we really had all of this furniture just sitting in the basement.
*photo via flickr, I'm not sure that I am really allowed to use flickr photos , but thanks for the wonderful inspiration. (I'm a new blogger so I don't know all the rules)

P.S. this is not the guy that owns the furniture

Watch out Martha

Baby J's birthday cake, handmade by me. Last year we spent way too much on his birthday cake, so I decided this year I would make it myself. It made it easier that his b-day was on Easter, and I had no complaints.

A pair of these daybeds for $50.00
( I already have a call in and an email)
doesn't look like much now, but picture upholstered in a nice NEUTRAL color. One on either side of a coffee table , can you say lounge?
*update my husband is not going to be very excited when we are the proud owners of these MCM daybeds. Tomorrow I may go missing, and I would suspect that these couches would have something to do with it.

Love it

I love this settee. I think it is just perfect, wouldn't change a thing.
